The developer has signed on Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to run the hotel, which will rise at the gateway to the Ballpark District on the corner of Sixth Avenue and J Street. Designed by Delawie, Wilkes, Rodrigues, Barker & Bretton, the hotel is being planned to reflect the historical ambience of the neighborhood. Its exterior design will include a four-story component that is reminiscent of a brick warehouse building, as well as a green copper dome atop the hotel's lobby entrance. Inside, the lobby will be constructed to create an intimate atmosphere by making use of a fireplace and other homey decor. Other planned features of the hotel are two hospitality parlors, an outdoor event deck and pool and a contemporary upscale eatery that will also be operated by the Kimpton Group. <p.JMI Realty, which is the master developer of the 26-block Ballpark District, has also engaged Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP to secure financing for the hotel. The project is being valued at approximately $50 million.
