Great Wolf Lodge Makes its Way to Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, VA-A plan for a new multi-faceted tourist attraction in the historic town of Williamsburg is in the works. Madison, WI-headquartered Great Lakes Cos. Inc.–a family destination resort developer–is laying the groundwork for the development of the Great Wolf Lodge, a $30-million outdoor entertainment and hotel facility.

Located at the spot where Rte. 199 and I-64 coincide, the Great Wolf Lodge is a water-themed park that will consist of 360,000 sf of enclosed space to include a hotel lodge with nearly 300 suites, 5,000 sf of conference room space, two restaurants, and a retail shopping area. The entertainment park will also have seven swimming pools and a bevy of 400-ft water slides. “We were attracted to Williamsburg because it has served as a popular destination for years,” Eric Lund, Great Lakes senior vice president for sales and marketing, tells GlobeSt.com. “Looking at the demographics, the area is a perfect fit for our target market. Ours is a year-around operation and will be an additional reason why people should come to York County. We look at it as a complement to what is already there, and it will also be good for the local economy.”
