City of San Diego Acquires 226-Acre Parcel

SAN DIEGO-The land, which is located atop Fortuna Mountain, will become the newest addition to Mission Trails Regional Park. It will remain undeveloped, as part of the city's Multiple Species Conservation Program.

SAN DIEGO-The City of San Diego has acquired a 226-acre parcel located atop Fortuna Mountain with plans to preserve it as natural open space.

The acquisition, which has become the city’s newest addition to Mission Trails Regional Park, has been purchased by the Zoological Society of San Diego from San Diego State University. The Zoological Society bought it to fulfill the biological mitigation requirements associated with the expansion of the San Diego Wild Animal Park. In addition to the land, the Zoological Society has also given an endowment of $69,000 to the City Park and Recreation Department for management of trails and habitat.
