Lincoln Center Inc. officials say the group's first task will be the transformation of 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam into Lincoln Center's "Main Street." The goal is to make the block more pedestrian-friendly while creating street-level entrances for several Lincoln Center venues.

"We have specifically chosen public spaces as an important part of our overall redevelopment process because everyone who works at and visits Lincoln Center will benefit from this redesign," says Bruce Crawford, chairman of Lincoln Center Inc. "Our design team was selected because its ideas reflected both an appreciation of Lincoln Center as the world's premier cultural destination, and a vision for translating the area's creative energy into dynamic, accessible spaces that encourage public and community use."

A panel of board members drawn from the participating Lincoln Center institutions selected the design team. The redevelopment initiative, which calls for upgrading the campus performance venues in addition to reconfiguring the public spaces, will unfold as a series of independent projects over the next decade.
