Construction on the three-level addition, which will front the Las Vegas Strip, began immediately following the signing and is expected to have Roman guards in place by fall 2004. The new wing will extend from the existing Caesars Palace mall and, thanks to a pedestrian plaza on Las Vegas Boulevard, create a highly visible entrance to the Forum Shops. The design retains Caesars Roman motif.

"On an average day, the shops attract 50,000 people, driving more than 10 times the foot traffic of the most successful Las Vegas showroom," says Park Place president and CEO Wallace R. Barr. "The expansion will complement all the other great new attractions at Caesars Palace, giving Las Vegas visitors even more reasons to make Rome their home."

The Forum Shops debuted in 1992 with 283,000 of leasable space. A 1997 expansion brought the facility to 500,000 sf.

Last year, 18 million visitors took in the center's bigger-than-life statuary and fountains, as well as its high-end retailers. Recent additions to the mall's tony tenant roster include Valentino, Tod's, Chopard, MAC Cosmetics, D&G Sport, Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli. Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab (of South Beach fame) and Donald Pliner have already committed to the expansion.
