Construction of the facility, which stands at 3605 Avocado Blvd., began in August of 2002. Designed by architect Dietrich Wieland of Portland, OR-based Group Mackenzie, the project contains a fitness center, pool, spa and steam and sauna rooms. The built-out facility encompasses a total of 26,168 sf.
24 Hour Fitness' representative on the project was Chris Bailey, while Dave McCarthy of Roel served as the senior project manager. Subcontractors included LTC Construction, Challenger Sheet Metal, La Mesa Glass and Towne Construction.
The new center reflects 24 Hour Fitness' continued expansion in the United States and abroad. The fitness company, which began in 1983 with one 5,000-sf club in San Leandro, CA has spread across the United States and into Asia and Europe. Other recently completed centers include one in Taylorsville, UT and another in Littleton, CO.
