Starwood Hotels and Inmobiliaria Interpres, S.A. de C.V opened the new facility last week. Located on Avenida Juarez 70 in Mexico City's Historical Center, Starwood officials say Centro Historico, the company's third property in the city, is the capital's largest meetings and events hotel facility.

The hotel offers 457 guestrooms including a 3,229-square foot Presidential Suite, Junior Suites, Master Suites and extended-stay guestrooms. The hotel's convention venue features 53,000 sf and offers eight meeting rooms that can be divided into 14 breakout rooms. All told, the meeting facilities can accommodate 6,000 people.

"With the addition of the Sheraton Centro Historico Hotel & Convention Center, we can offer both the leisure and business traveler an excellent choice in hotel accommodations in the capital's downtown area," says Batya Brykman, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. vice president, Latin America Division and director of operations for Mexico and Central America. "Starwood now has three hotels in Mexico City that are strategically located in the most important areas of the city including the Historical Center, Reforma Avenue and Santa Fe district."

The Historical Center in Mexico City comprises more than 1,500 buildings designated as historic landmarks, including the Palace of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Museum of Arts, the National Palace, Post Office Palace, Franz Mayer Museum, and "Templo Mayor" among others.
