Located along Lake Taneycomo, the public/private project will include entertainment and retail space as well as a 220,000-sf convention center. HCW is building the complex on city-owned land under a 99-year lease.
Construction will begin this spring on Branson Landing (the project's working title). Situated adjacent to downtown Branson and about a mile from the city's entertainment district., the site stretches along more than a mile of shoreline.
The convention center is the centerpiece of the development and will include 60,000 sf of exhibition space, 20,000 sf of ballrooms and 15,000 sf of meeting space. An adjacent 300-room convention hotel is also planned.
"The convention center will provide a powerful incentive for associations, groups and companies to visit Branson," says Branson city administrator Terry Dody. "The audiences involved in convention center events will be an entirely new audience for us, particularly business travelers, whose characteristics differ markedly from our current visitor makeup. It expands our ability to reach new and different markets and offers a significant new reason to travel to Branson."
The complex will also include a 1.2-mile waterfront promenade will feature retail and entertainment venues as well as a 90,000-sf aquarium.
The project will be funded through tax increment financing, under which the state will sell revenue ponds to pay for the development's public elements. A portion of the revenues generated by the facility will then be returned to the city. The TIF bond issuance is expected to be formally approved by June.
