FDA Continues Consolidation with $55M Center

SILVER SPRING, MD-Consolidation has continued to be the key for many government building endeavors as of late, and plans for the development of a $55 million office building for the US Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research is no exception. The General Services Administration–in conjunction with the US Department of Health and Human Services and the FDA–has tapped Centex Construction Co. to handle construction of the 550,000-sf structure.

Centex competed with a bevy of other construction hopefuls by responding to the GSA’s Request for Proposal for the project exactly two years ago. Centex tells GlobeSt.com that it received award of the project last October, and was given notice to proceed in December. The company says the target date for completion is December 1, 2004.
