Upscale Retailer Stein Mart Makes its Mark on Chevy Chase Pavilion

CHEVY CHASE, MD-Chevy Chase Pavilion has been effectively transformed into a leading mixed-use development with department store Stein Mart’s recent commitment to take on about 27,000 sf of space in the combination retail, office and hotel property. The lease brings the retail portion’s occupancy level up to 93%. For Jacksonville, FL-based Stein Mart, the deal marks the high-end retailer’s entrée into the Metropolitan Washington, DC market.

“This lease is critical to complete our vision for repositioning this property,” says Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group vice president Burr Ault. Lowe Enterprises acquired the property five years ago and immediately began a massive renovation project. “In addition to the architectural improvements, we have retenanted the retail component bringing in five new national tenants including J Crew, Ann Taylor Loft, and Stein Mart representing over 78,000 sf,” Ault adds. Today, Chevy Chase Pavilion consists of 140,000 sf of retail space, 200,000 sf of top-of-the-line office space, and an Embassy Suites Hotel that offers 198 rooms.
