Port Gears Up for Imperial Beach Pier Repairs

SAN DIEGO-The Unified Port of San Diego will kick off the repair project next Tuesday. Slated for an August 2003 completion, the project will involve the improvement of the pier's structural components and utility systems.

SAN DIEGO-The Imperial Beach Pier will soon undergo improvements, as the Unified Port of San Diego plans to kick off a repair project here next Tuesday.

The project will involve upgrades to the pier’s utility systems and replacement of some of its structural components. Improvements to the utility systems will include installing a fire protection line that will be separate from the domestic water line, as well as repairing and extending the existing sanitary sewer line. The structural repairs will entail the replacement of six stringers, which are the horizontal timber beams that support the decking on top of the pier.
