The board is urging that the San Diego Redevelopment Agency approve the agreement with Oak Shelter Systems LLC, a development company that is proposing to build a 160-unit affordable apartment project on a full city block in downtown. Encompassing 20,000 sf, the parcel is bounded by Market, 13th, 14th and Island Avenue.
The design plans, which were worked on by Joseph Wong Design Associates and Santos Prescott and Associates, call for 114 for-sale units and 46 rental units with floor plans ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. The project would also include 210 parking spaces and 10,000 sf of retail space. In addition, the Inner City Baptist Church, located at the southern end of the site, would be rebuilt and incorporated into the project along with a new community room.
