The low-density project would have just 900 homes sites as well as a golf course, equestrian center, swimming and tennis facilities and overnight lodging to include a condominium-lodge building and timeshare cabins. Eagle Crest filed its application with Crook County last week. The land use approval process is expected to begin April 9.

Eagle Crest Inc., the resort subsidiary of Klamath Falls, OR-based Jeld-Wen Inc., owns Eagle Crest Resort, a 1,700-acre resort also near Bend that contains 2,500 housing units. It also runs the Running Y Resort in Klamath Falls and Silver Mountain Resort in Idaho. Other existing resorts near Bend include Sunriver, Inn of the Seventh Mountain and Black Butte Ranch.

An even higher-end destination resort than Eagle Crest's would-be Powell Butte Resort also is in the works east of Highway 97 between Bend and Redmond. Being developed by High Desert Development Partners LLC under the management of Hix Rubenstein Companies, Pronghorn will include just 300 home sites, two championship golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio, a full-service spa, restaurants, a 30,000-sf private clubhouse for members and guests, swimming and tennis facilities and Camp Pronghorn for kids.
