The deal was put together by Michael Hirschfeld, managing partner of West Port, CT-based Urban & Specialty Retail Group, which represented Quiksilver. The building's owner, Rudin Management, was self-represented.

Featuring a canopy of 60 suspended surfboards and a 20-ft. wave wall with video screens airing surfing, skating and snowboarding images, the new store will be the first retailer of its kind in this neighborhood; however, it is not its first Quiksilver in Manhattan. The chain debuted in New York City in 1998 with a location in SoHo.

"With the opening of our Times Square store we continue to expand our reach," says Bernard Mariette, president of Quiksilver. "The success of our opening day surpassed the debut of our Champs Elysees [Paris] store in 1998 and indicates that the boardriding culture is no longer tied to geography."

In true Times Square style, the new Quiksilver will encompass a creative storefront with a 63-screen plasma video wall and a gaming kiosk to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Kelly Slater Pro Surfer video games. The store will carry a mix of clothing and accessories from the Quiksilver Young Mens, Quiksilver Boys, Quiksilveredition, Roxy and Raisins lines.
