VenAventura chose Schapiro Associates for its ability to combine artistic intent with science and technology, according to a spokesperson for the project. Schapiro Associates, formed in 1975, offers a full range of architectural services and instills a South American style into its work.

"Jaime was the clear choice for this project because [the firm has] so much experience in Miami Beach and [its] projects have seen such great success," says Enrique Darer, a principal of VenAventura, a South American developer.

Suffolk will provide pre-construction services for the project. The Boston-based contractor's Florida division received the Outstanding General Contractor of the Year award from the Miami chapter of the American Institute of Architects last year.

Ground-breaking for The Atrium, at 3331 NE 188th St., is planned for late summer, with construction expected to take 18 months.
