Some 170 firefighters responded to the call, and the fire was brought under control at about 2:35 this morning. There has been no report of damages, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
One mechanic on the scene suffered minor injuries. There were no other injuries reported.
This is not the first setback that has taken place at the construction site since ground broke. Four people were injured in the fall when debris was blown from the site in a gusting wind. Nevertheless, construction and pre-leasing has progressed well at the complex, which is being developed by the Related Cos. Whole Foods recently signed on for 60,000 sf of retail space.
In February, Related and JV partner Apollo agreed to sell 49.5% of the project's 347,000-sf retail space, 211,000 sf of class A, non AOL office space, the three-level parking structure, and a $359-million stake in the development's $1.2 billion GMAC loan to a JV between CalPers and MacFarlane.
