Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Metcalfe will remain as chairman for two years, while Gabri moves the association's headquarters to Orlando from Washington, DC. Gabri, 51, will be president and CEO.

"Now that David will be leading the company, I can slow things down quite a bit," Metcalfe says in a prepared statement. "He is one of the brightest, most energetic visionaries I know in the hotel industry and he will do a terrific job."

Gabri joined Tishman in 1989. He grew up in Syracuse, NY; came to Orlando in 1981 from Washington; and worked as a marketing director and later as executive vice president of Orlando-based Buena Vista Hospitality Group.
