The proposed University Village project includes 617 units of rental housing and 70,000-sf of retail space including shops, restaurants, and a full-service grocery store. The project also will include green space, a 17,000-sf community center, new little league ball fields and the restoration of the two creeks that run through the site.

The Allen & O'Hara team includes EAH, a San Rafael, CA-based non-profit housing company. Allen & O'Hara will manage the housing upon completion of construction. The retail portion of the project will be owned by a collaboration of Foothill Partners of El Dorado Hills, CA and the California Public Employees Retirement System.

The housing, some of which will be located above retail space, breaks down into 587 units for 1,034 graduate students and 30 units for junior faculty. The project design and construction team features ELS Architects of Berkeley, Pyatok Architects of Oakland, and Swinerton Builders of San Francisco.

Neither the university nor Allen & O'Hara returned calls on Thursday seeking comment. This development is one of several phases the university has that will ultimately house approximately 3,000 graduate and married students, as well as faculty.

Allen & O'Hara has student housing development and management experience in 44 university markets nationwide. The firm is developing and managing new student residences at universities across the country, including the University of Cincinnati, the University of Arizona, the University of North Carolina, the University of Northern Colorado, North Carolina State University, the University of Georgia, California State University San Marcos and Florida State University.
