J Street Development LLC has purchased the 1150 J. St. facility for $4.5 million. Completed in the 1960s, the J Street building encompasses 47,563 sf. The new owner, with Barrett Homes as lead partner, plans to convert the site into residential housing.

Bill Shrader and Michael Dyer of Burnham Real Estate Services ONCOR International acted on behalf of J Street Development LLC in the recent transaction. San Diego Rescue Mission was represented by Ron Bement of CB Richard Ellis.

A non-profit, privately funded organization, San Diego Rescue Mission was started in 1955. Having occupied the J Street building for many years, San Diego Rescue Mission has chosen to relocate to the old Harbor View facility because the larger site will allow the organization to combine its Men's and Women's Centers, which are currently run out of separate facilities, under one roof. Both centers provide a variety of services, including shelter, meals, clothing, addiction treatment and job training, to the area's homeless population. San Diego Rescue Mission plans to move to its new facility sometime this summer.
