The ALDI concept calls for a limited selection of most-used grocery items, merchandised under private label at deep discounts. Its stores typically carry 700 products, compared with the more than 25,000 carried by a conventional grocery store.
Germany-based ALDI introduced the concept in its home country 40 years ago and has since spread it around the world. ALDI opened in the Midwestern US in 1976 and now operates about 600 stores in 25 states.
Metro specializes in the retail market and is the exclusive leasing agent for more than 250 retail properties encompassing more than 12 million sf in PA, NJ and DE.
