For their convenience, subway passengers will have access to a new 9,000-sf passageway and an extended mezzanine with a direct connection to the convention center. Construction also included the development of a utility tunnel, as well as the requisite maintenance and operations rooms.

"Metrorail customers will be able to walk directly from our mezzanine into the lobby of the new Washington Convention Center without having to go outdoors," WMATA CEO Richard A. White says. "We expect that, as in the case with the MCI Center, approximately 50% of people attending events at the new convention center will use Metrorail as their primary mode of transportation.
