Convention Center Becomes First in US to Get Metro Station

WASHINGTON, DC-New ground has been broken in the Nation’s Capital as the Washington DC Convention Center becomes the first convention center in the nation to have its own subway station. Washington Metro Area Transit Authority has completed development of the $14 million expansion project at Mount Vernon Square Metrorail, which now has a direct connection to the new convention center at 7th and M streets. The Clark Construction Group Inc.’s subsidiary Clark Foundations spearheaded construction of the project, which took approximately two years to complete.

For their convenience, subway passengers will have access to a new 9,000-sf passageway and an extended mezzanine with a direct connection to the convention center. Construction also included the development of a utility tunnel, as well as the requisite maintenance and operations rooms.
