The site for the five- or six-story hotel is a 30,000-sf parcel on the west side of Aurora Avenue North between Roy St and Mercer St. The Seattle Center sits across Mercer Street from the project. The site address is 601 Aurora Ave. N.

Property records show National Investment Corp. acquired the half-block property in for $1.2 million. King County currently values the land at $2.33 million. A Comfort Suites Hotel occupies the western half of the block.

The proposal is for an "Extended Stay Business Class Suites Hotel." The applicant for the project, architect Dale Johnson tells GlobeSt.com the hotel will sit atop two levels of underground parking.

The early design review meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 7 in the McClure Middle School lunchroom.

Another significant project is being proposed at the northwest corner of East Madison Street and East Denny Way, where eight separate parcels totaling 33,000 sf are being planned as one major residential project. The proposal is for a six-story building with 187 residential units, ground floor commercial space and below-grade parking for 312 vehicles.

The developer's project applicant, architect Carlos De La Torre, did not return a phone call seeking further comment. Property records show DEF Inc. acquired all but one of the parcels via a quit claim deed in 1991. The developer is seeking approval to vacate the alley that separates the eight parcels.

The most recognizable improvements on the would-be apartment site are a Delano's Grocery and Delano's Café. The site, addressed as 2040 East Madison St., is located across Madison from Planned Parenthood, the Seattle Back Clinic and Oscar's Restaurant. Across Denny is a Firestone Tire facility.

The early design review meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 7 in room 4106 of Seattle Central Community College.
