The scheme, designed by Aukett, will incorporate 600 residential apartments; 150,000 sf of leisure including cinema, health & fitness centre, bowling, bingo, and restaurants; and 86,000 sf of retail. The site is located at the foot of West Cliff on the beach Plateau, bounded by Marine Parade to the north and the sea to the south
The architects said the innovative residential buildings reflect seaside themes by creating three-dimensional, curved façade "sails" which act as wind deflectors to allow secluded gardens to exist within the development. Aukett Director Paul Newman says, "The site is a key part of the harbour and seafront area, and this project constitutes a major step in regenerating the town, creating a brand new urban quarter for Folkestone, radically transforming the existing area into a positive, contemporary environment."
