The project is approximately 75% built-out, with move-ins expected to begin in August of this year. When completed, the development will house 98,250 sf of residential space and 20,000 sf of commercial space. It will feature a central kitchen, dining facility, recreation rooms, outdoor courtyards, park, administration space and onsite parking for 30 vehicles.
Market Square Manor's 200 units will be occupied by low-income seniors, with rents to be set at $350 per month. More than 900 people have already applied for apartments in the new complex, according to Senior Community Centers, a locally based, non-profit social service agency that is developing the complex.
Market Square Manor has been primarily funded through tax credits awarded by the State of California, Centre City Development Corp., San Diego Housing Commission and the Federal Home Loan Bank. Various donors, such as the Allgauer Foundation and the The Cush Automotive Foundation, have also contributed money to the project.
