$35M Marine Corps Museum Moves Forward

QUANTICO, VA-Plans for the development of the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center have taken another leap toward realization as the private non-profit Marine Corps Heritage Foundation sets the groundbreaking date for September 26. The 120,000-sf project–a joint public/private endeavor involving the US Marine Corps, the US Department of the Navy, and the Heritage Center–is on target to reach completion on the Marine Corps’ 230th birthday, November 10, 2005.

The public-private development endeavor will be located on a 135-acre lot near the front gate of the Quantico, VA Marine Corps Base. “It’s hard to pin down the exact cost of the project because it’s being developed in phases,” the Heritage Foundation’s Susan Hodges tells GlobeSt.com. “Phase one will cost abut $35 million and will consist of the national museum and the parking lot–only two-thirds of the whole project.”
