The 94-unit structure also marks the first new housing construction to take place in the community in a quarter century. Nonprofit development organization Harlem Park Revitalization Corp. and Bank of America are behind the renewal endeavor.

Located at 1700 Edmondson Ave., Harlem Gardens has other much-needed amenities, aside from low-income residential space, to serve the community. The property also features a pharmacy, a physician's office, and a dine-in café--the only ones in the Harlem Park environs. Building residents are also privy to a media/library room, and an arts and crafts facility.

"Interest in Harlem Gardens is extremely strong, notes Harlem Park president Jelili Ogundele. "There is tremendous demand for senior housing in the city, and affordable housing overall in this neighborhood.
