A $1.3-million grant goes toward a plan to convert the 3,700-sf armory, which is nearly 100 years old, into a veterans' museum that Media mayor Robert McMahon believes will become a downtown destination.

The armory is at 12 E. State St. McMahon said the borough is negotiating with an upscale grocery chain to share space with the museum. The conversion is expected to reach completion by early next year.

Further down State Street, the Media Theatre will use the $700,000-grant to help with a renovation that includes the installation of new lighting and sound systems. This renovation is scheduled for completion by November of this year.
