US Air Force Seeks Private Developer for Offutt AFB

WASHINGTON, DC-Keeping in line with the national Military Housing Privatization Initiative, the US Air Force has put out the call for bids to redevelop housing offerings at Offutt Air Force Base in southeastern Nebraska. With the assistance of real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle–a longtime advisor and property manager for the aviation arm of the US Military–the Air Force will revamp and develop 2,255 housing units at Offutt. The pricetag for the project will be steep. “Since the project is under procurement right now I can’t give specifics, but development costs will be in the hundreds of millions,” Jones Lang LaSalle’s Kevin Wayer tells GlobeSt.com.

Once a proposal has been accepted, the government will lease the property to the selected developer and sell most of the government-owned family housing units at Offutt to the developer, as well. Government requirements on how the winner of the bid will meet the request for new and improved housing units are specific. In approximate numbers, the chosen firm will be charged with demolishing 800 units, performing major renovations on 1,300 units, and constructing 500 new units.
