06/04/03: The stock market appears to be picking up steam, and this means the economy is perking up, right? Well, let's not jump to conclusions. First, remember that stock market averages rose for the six-month period from April through September, and then they fell October through March. So what does this tell us about the immediate condition (especially in light of the fact that institutional investors are in play and conducting business as usual)? How does this affect the individual investor? Two words: caveat emptor. Although 2003 has shown some moderate growth, there are still many underlying factors that show economic weakness and instability. If your short-term goal is to time the market, then this is your time to invest. If not, this is the time to really do your research.

(AUSTIN, TX) President George W. Bush appoints James A. Broaddus, Ph.D., president and CEO of Broaddus & Assoc. Inc., to the board of directors of the National Institute of Building Sciences. Dr. Broaddus' appointment to the 3-year term was confirmed by the US Senate following a Senate sub-committee hearing.

AMERICAN BUILDING MAINTENANCE CO.
(NEW YORK CITY) Scott Salmirs joins the company as executive vice president. The 15-year industry veteran was previously senior vice president of Lehman Brothers, where he served as head of corporate real estate for North and South America.

(BOSTON) Michael J. Buckley is hired as senior vice president of finance, and will work with the chief financial officer to execute all capital market activity related to company acquisitions, developments and joint ventures. He most recently served as managing director at Boston-based Tremont Realty Capital LLC.

Kelly

(NEW YORK CITY) Anne Kelly is named vice president of sales and marketing. She will oversee all sales, advertising and marketing efforts for the company's independent, assisted living memory care and active adult rental apartments. Kelly previously served as vice president of sales and marketing for Sunrise Assisted Living in McLean, Virginia.

The management of loans will include the review of loan documents, collateral analysis, negotiations with borrowers and the direction of the legal process. Responsibilities also include the underwriting of new CMBS acquisitions and individual assets, along with the evaluation of the CMBS bond analysis.
