Plastech's plans include a three-stage process for a new manufacturing complex. The first phase will be a 252,000 sf blow molding facility. This facility will be expanded by 75,000 sf within two years, and a separate 375,000 sf facility for injection mold products will be added within three years. The total capital investment for the project is about $110 million.

Plastech had considered locating the manufacturing complex in either the township or a competing site in Kentucky. A Single Business Tax credit offered today worth $9.9 million over a 13-year period helped convince the firm to expand and create new jobs in Michigan, said state officials.

Frenchtown Charter Township helped attract the expansion with its approval of a tax abatement for the company worth an estimated $8.2 million over 12 years.

Plastech is one of Michigan's largest Tier One automotive suppliers. The company has 16 manufacturing facilities and joint ventures in the U.S. One of the industry's top engineering and design operations is located at its corporate headquarters in Dearborn.

The company had announced plans to build a $37 million manufacturing facility in Romulus last August. That project also received tax breaks from state and local agencies.
