Plastech Plans Three Phase Complex

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI-Tier one automotive supplier says it will spend $110 million to build three facilities totaling 702,000-sf for its molding operations. Tax assistance has been given to the company.

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI-Plastech Engineered Products has chosen Frenchtown Township, MI, for a major new manufacturing complex. The three facilities in the complex will add a total of 702,000 sf of new manufacturing capacity for Plastech’s blow molding and injection molding operations. The project is expected to create 1,898 new Michigan jobs by 2016, including 900 directly by the company.

Plastech’s plans include a three-stage process for a new manufacturing complex. The first phase will be a 252,000 sf blow molding facility. This facility will be expanded by 75,000 sf within two years, and a separate 375,000 sf facility for injection mold products will be added within three years. The total capital investment for the project is about $110 million.

Plastech had considered locating the manufacturing complex in either the township or a competing site in Kentucky. A Single Business Tax credit offered today worth $9.9 million over a 13-year period helped convince the firm to expand and create new jobs in Michigan, said state officials.
