Gerald D. Kelfer, board vice chairman, executive committee chairman, president and CEO of Avatar Holdings Inc.; Eduardo A. Brea, partner and managing director of Sterling Capital Management LLC; Milton H. Dresner, founding partner of The Highland Cos.; and Martin Meyerson, president emeritus and policy and planning professor at the University of Pennsylvania were re-elected to board positions. Also re-elected were Kenneth T. Rosen, business administration professor and chairman of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California at Berkeley; Fred Stanton Smith, board vice chairman of The Keyes Co.; William G. Spears, principal with Spears, Grisanti & Brown LLC; and Beth A. Stewart, CEO and co-chairman of Storetrax.com and president of Stewart Real Estate Capital.

Stockholders also approved the appointment of the accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP as auditors for the company for the period ending December 31. The annual meeting of the stockholders was held earlier this month at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables.

Avatar Holdings Inc. is involved in diversified real estate operations, mainly in Florida and Arizona. The company's operations include development, commercial and industrial properties, property management, home building, cable television and other operations, including the development of Harbor Islands in Hollywood, FL.
