Minneapolis-based Golf Galaxy is scheduled to open this fall and will be located adjacent to Old Navy and one of two new entrances to the mall. The store's interactive features will include golf simulators, indoor driving bays, a simulated bent-grass putting green, and a PGA instruction area that includes computerized video swing analysis. The lease rate on the deal was not disclosed, but lease rates at the mall generally range from the mid teens per sf to the mid $20s, depending on the size of the lease and the length of the commitment.

Earlier this year, GlobeSt.com reported that Century Theaters had agreed to develop a 16-screen movie theater on mall property. Mark Perniconi tells GlobeSt.com that construction of the theater is set to begin in August. The theater is being built on a piece of 16 acres adjacent the mall that C.E. John acquired from Tektronix about three years ago. Perniconi says Century inked a letter of intent just before Christmas and has since entered into a long-term ground lease.

The mall currently includes 283,363 sf of anchor stores--including Old Navy, Winco Foods, Emporium, G.I. Joes, Ross Dress For Less and Best Buy--and 80-plus specialty stores occupying another 490,000 sf. The $15-million theater project is above and beyond the ongoing $20-million mall makeover, which includes: three new mall entries; new building facades to existing structures along Cedar Hills Blvd. and Hocken Avenue; the addition of approximately 40,000 sf of new retail space; interior mall improvements including the addition of a food court; and the new restaurant pads.

As well, new pedestrian links will be added from Cedar Hills Blvd., Jenkins Road, Hall Blvd. and Hocken Street, and Southwest Hall Boulevard will be extended as a private road west where it will connect with Hocken Avenue. The mall makeover is slated for completion prior to the 2003 fall shopping season.

Along with the mall's new name is a new manager, Chris Sloan. Formerly the Regional Director for Burnham Pacific Properties and the Manager of Property Administration for Thrifty PayLess Drug Stores, Sloan has also worked in the Real Estate departments of Fred Meyer and Consolidated Freightways.
