Babies 'R' Us Plaza Expecting Major Size Increase

LAUREL, MD-Owners of the 155,000-sf retail center known as Babies ‘R’ Us Plaza have decided to upgrade the property by adding a 50,000-sf extension. The project will make room for a new Food Lion grocery store to join the retail development where outlets such as Rent-A-Center, Subway, Pizzeria Uno, and of course, Babies ‘R’ Us, already lease space. Food Lion is on target to open its doors to customers during the fourth quarter of this year.

“Securing a grocery anchor for Babies ‘R’ Us Plaza was vital to the future success of the center,” says JBG Rosenfeld Retail vice president of leasing Bob Schwenger. JBGR handles leasing activity for the property and tells GlobeSt.com that the construction endeavor will cost $4 million to complete. “Time-strapped consumers seek out retail centers that enable them to fulfill all their shopping needs at once–grocery store, post office, barber shop, pharmacy, etc.,” he continues. “With the entrance of Food Lion to the center, customers will come to rely on Babies ‘R’ Us Plaza for the convenience of all these services in one place.”
