General Dynamics' Resin Transfer Molding Operations Make the Move to Virginia

MARION, VA-After considering a bevy of other states General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products–an entity of Burlington, VT-headquartered General Dynamics Corp.–has settled on relocating its DeLand, FL-based Resin Transfer Molding operations to its 1 million-sf, multi-structure center in Smyth County, VA. General Dynamics has not indicated exactly by how much it will expand its current facility, but the new addition could be at least 245,000 sf, as the RTM operations center in Florida consists of 185,000 sf of manufacturing space and 60,000 sf of warehouse space.

“In addition to the excellent workforce in Marion, the remarkable cooperation of state and local officials, the affordable cost of living, and competitive business incentives were major factors in the decision to move our RTM process to Virginia,” Armament and Technical Products division president Linda Hudson explains.” In an effort to help facilitate the $6.5 million development, the Governor’s Opportunity Fund and the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission will give Smyth County at total of $600,000.
