In July 2001, Sysco agreed to acquire the parcel, subject to delivery of aclean, cleared site. Since then, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp.directed demolition of an unused city incinerator along with environmentalremediation and other site improvements. The work was funded by aninfrastructure development grant by the Philadelphia Department of Community and EconomicDevelopment. PIDC also managed approvals by the state's Department ofEnvironmental Protection and legislation with the City Council.

Sysco is the largest food service marketing and distribution organization inNorth America. It has annual sales of approximately $19 billion and operates70 facilities throughout North America. The expanded site here will includerefrigerated, dry and office space. It is projected to employ an additional200 workers.
