CBI director-general Digby Jones said: 'The government is right to back Crossrail. The failings of London's transport system threaten its position as a world business city.'
Jones beileves Crossrail will make journeys faster and more predictable. He says it will improve links between regions and support urban regeneration and airport expansion.
'But the whole community will enjoy the benefits, not just business,' he warns. 'That is why we need a full consultation before any decisions are taken on how to fund this scheme. Business enthusiasm for funding Crossrail cannot be taken for granted.'
