07/09/03: The official unemployment rate hit 6.4% in June. This doesn’t include the shadow jobless rate, which includes people whose unemployment benefits have expired. As we enter the 2004 presidential-election cycle, the big number to watch out for is 7%. If the unemployment rate hits that number, coupled with the ranks of the long-term unemployed, all bets are off on this president’s reelection–not that any strong contenders have emerged from the opposing party. However, there is always the chance of a third-party candidate showing up. Remember Ross Perot? I’m sure the current administration hasn’t forgotten.

Di Filippo

TURNER CONSTRUCTION CO. (DALLAS) Pasquale (Pat) A. Di Filippo has been promoted to senior vice president and general manager for Texas, including offices in Dallas and Houston. He began his Turner career in the New York office as a field engineer/assistant superintendent in 1984, and most recently assumed the role of vice president and general manager for the New Jersey office in 1999.

Sharp

IDI (IRVINE, CA) The firm promotes Alan Sharp to district vice president of the Irvine office. Sharp, former vice president of construction, joined IDI nine years ago. Previously he was half owner and secretary/treasurer of a general contracting firm primarily focused on industrial and office construction.

Beardsley

CRIC CAPITAL LLC (DALLAS) K. David Beardsley is named director of acquisitions Dallas office, where he will originate and structure net lease transactions by working with finance executives of and advisors to creditworthy corporations. Beardsley was previously senior vice president with USI, responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s corporate services business within its southern region.

Schindler-Candella

TRAMMELL CROW CO. (NEW YORK CITY) Elyse Schindler-Candella is hired as vice president at the firm’s New York office, where she will be responsible for tenant representation and new business development in the New York City region. Prior to joining Trammell Crow, Schindler-Candella served as a sales associate with Insignia/ESG.

Savage

AMERICAN BUILDING MAINTENANCE CO. (NEW YORK CITY) Paul Savage, former managing director of property services for Insignia/ESG’s Florida office, has joined the company as branch manager of ABM’s Downtown Manhattan portfolio. He will oversee the delivery of janitorial services to 30 buildings encompassing over 24 million sf of commercial space. Savage will also be responsible for new business development initiatives.
