The $2.3 million, 50-unit community, Laurel's Edge, will be a two-story, 38,000-sf structure at Frey and Shiloh roads in suburban Kennesaw. The project is partly funded by the HUD. Occupancy is tentatively slated for the first quarter 2004.

Laurel's Edge is United Church Homes' sixth senior community in Georgia. The others are Athena Gardens in Athens; Barrington Square in Acworth; Cedar Heights in Cedartown; The Villas in Rome; and Winding Hollow in Winder. United Church Homes, founded in 1916, operates 55 retirement homes in 11 states.

Lane's other senior living communities are the AHEPA 343 Apartments, under construction in LaVergne, TN; Benson Manor in Cobb County; and Governor's Terrace in Forest Park.
