Town of 626 Offers French Firm $450,000 for 50 Acres

NELSON, GA-Area brokers tell GlobeSt.com that what makes this deal unusual is that tiny hamlets are preparing to save green space in their areas before the advent of encroaching nearby developments.

NELSON, GA-This town of 626 permanent residents and a private firm, Atlanta East Inc., are offering France-based Imerys Co. $450,000, or about $9,000 per acre (21 cents per sf), for the former Georgia Marble Co. plant and 50 adjoining acres in north Cherokee County, about 50 miles north of Downtown Atlanta.

Area brokers tell GlobeSt.com that what makes this deal unusual is that tiny hamlets, such as Nelson, are preparing to save green space in their areas before the arrival of nearby developments, not after the new projects are started. Two new nearby subdivisions, totaling 100 homes, are nearing completion.

The French company has owned the land and buildings for many years and has done nothing with the property, area brokers tell GlobeSt.com.
