The construction project includes expansion and renovation of the emergencyroom in order to accommodate an estimated 20%-increase in demand along withrenovation of the lobby and first-floor outpatient services.
Sacred Heart was founded in 1912. It serves a largely elderly, Latinopopulation and the surrounding community's economically disadvantaged. Inawarding the grant, Rendell called it "a perfect example of the type of targetedinvestment we must make as a state if we are going to turn our economyaround." He projects that the hospital expansion will create "at least 110 new jobs."
