A grand opening event for the 182,000-sf hotel is planned for tomorrow. Holiday Inn spokeswoman Jenifer Zeigler said the new hotel will serve visitors coming to Detroit for the 2006 Super Bowl at Ford Field, the 2005 baseball All-Star Game at Comerica Park and other upcoming major events, including the annual North American International Auto Show.
The hotel was first built in 1964 and had worn the Howard Johnson, Days Inn, and other nameplates over the years. The new hotel is within walking distance of Cobo Center, Compuware's new Campus Martius headquarters, the U.S. District Court, the Renaissance Center, Comerica Park, Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena.
The hotel will be managed by the Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Summit Group. Rates range from weekend specials for as low as $99 a night through $139 for a standard room and $179 for a suite. The corporate rate is $119 a night.
