New Hotel Opens in Downtown Detroit

DETROIT-A new Holiday Inn has opened in a Downtown building, across from the storied Book Cadillac Hotel, which is currently under renovation.

DETROIT-A Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites has opened in what might soon become something of a new hotel district in Detroit. The new 241-room hotel, at Michigan Avenue and Washington Boulevard, is across the street from the long-vacant Book Cadillac Hotel, which is now being renovated.

A grand opening event for the 182,000-sf hotel is planned for tomorrow. Holiday Inn spokeswoman Jenifer Zeigler said the new hotel will serve visitors coming to Detroit for the 2006 Super Bowl at Ford Field, the 2005 baseball All-Star Game at Comerica Park and other upcoming major events, including the annual North American International Auto Show.
