DAYTONA BEACH, FL-In one of the largest land deals of the year in Volusia County, the 75-year-old, 764-bed Halifax Hospital has contracted to buy 230 acres on the west side of the city from locally based Consolidated Tomoka Land Co for $19 million, or about $82,608 per acre ($1.90 per sf). The hospital plans a multi-phased new main campus on the property.

Con-Tomoka senior vice president Bruce W. Teeters says the final price still could be adjusted up or down, “depending on survey and wetlands determination.” The site is south of LPGA Boulevard, between Clyde Morris and Williamson boulevards.

A tentative groundbreaking date on the first phase hasn’t been set. The first phase of the 20-year project may not open until 2008, hospital officials caution. Limited parking areas at the existing campus was a major factor in the planned relocation.
