Phase II, facility spokesperson Vicki Duncan tells GlobeSt.com, involves the construction of a new 14,500-sf addition to the administration building, conversion of 10,000-sf director's office into a security facility, renovation of two 96-bed inmate housing structures and expansion of the dining area. The first phase, which began in 1999, entailed technological upgrades, the development of a regional processing center and renovation of the medical unit.

"When these improvements are completed," says County Department of Corrections director Barry L. Stanton, "the citizens of Prince George's County will have a state-of-the-art correctional facility of which they can be justifiably proud." Construction is scheduled to wrap up in the fall of 2004.
