The first phase included a 34,000-sf addition to the existing facility on Avon Road, just west of Livernois. Phase II of the total $12.8 million project calls for the renovation of approximately 33,000 sf of the existing 35,000 sf. When completed, the building, originally constructed in 1980, will total 69,000 sf and be able to accommodate 170 workstations. The original facility was constructed to accommodate 70 workers. Now, 120 people work in the city hall.

The total project is expected to be complete by December of this year, DeMattia said.

Ground was originally broken on the project in March 2002.
