SAN DIEGO-It seems that less commercial development and a larger community park are in store for the three-block area surrounding Petco Park, as the Centre City Development Corp.’s board of directors has recommended that the San Diego City Council/Redevelopment Agency approve the amended parcel map for the site.

The revised map calls for less commercial development of the three-block parcel known as East Village Square and an expansion of the planned community space known as Outfield Park (formerly called Park at the Park). The CCDC board has also thrown its support behind a new design for the Outfield Park, recommending that the San Diego City Council/Redevelopment Agency approve it in addition to the amended parcel map. According to the CCDC, elements of the revised park design include a large, grassy open area that includes a Little League-sized replica infield; a grassy hill measuring from 8-ft to 10-ft high that will allow fans to watch the game from the park; another grassy area with a grove of trees; a children’s area with play equipment; fixed game tables and seating areas; and a large video board. Both the revised design and parcel map are consistent with the Fourth Ballpark and Redevelopment Project Implementation Agreement that the San Diego City Council/Redevelopment Agency approved this past July 29th.
