The modified scheme is for 350,000 sf of retail floorspace in a re-designed layout providing 53 units on two levels, including a 150,000 sf store to anchor the southern part of the Whitgift Centre. This compares with the provious proposals which comprised approximately 500,000 sf of retail floorspace and 660 parking spaces with one major department store and 61 other units.
The scheme includes a mall through the centre to George Street connecting the existing Whitgift Centre at ground and at first floor level across George Street to Minerva's Park Place development south of George Street. Although no new car parking is now envisaged, the existing car park will be modified and up graded.
Simon Winslow, Director at Aberdeen Property Investors said: "This scheme has the full backing of the owners of the Whitgift Centre. We all believe that this scheme is good for the Whitgift Centre, works well with Park Place and will meet Croydon's needs.
The scheme has been designed by architects Lyons Sleeman Hoare. Lunson Mitchenall is letting agent.
