The two were chose from 106 companies nominated for the award, according to The Business Journal magazine, which came out late last month.

To earn the honor, the companies had to score well on a benefits survey and on questionnaires completed anonymously by their employees, according to the magazine.

One United Properties employee said her company provided what she needed to do her job well- responsive leadership, talented co-workers and access to superior resources.

At BWBR, employees praised their sun-filled and open workspace in the Lawson Software building in downtown St. Paul, which the firm helped design.

The Business Journal began soliciting nominations in April through e-mail notices, newspaper announcements and direct mailings to 450 large companies and 1,000 small companies.
